27-June Lake Champlain

Edwina Takes a Ferry!

Today marks the start of riding with the rest of the group. For us, that meant heading uphill to meet the group and then heading back down the same hill and out to the Island Line bike trail, a rails to trails with a twist—the rail line crosses Lake Champlain on a causeway. The rails to trails is complete now except for a 200 foot gap where a drawbridge once existed.  Bikes can traverse the full causeway if they hop onto the bike ferry, a ferry dedicated to shuttling 6 bikes at a time across the gap.  How could Edwina resist?

Edwina barely rippled while traversing the crushed limestone surface of the bike trail—she showed those fancy aluminum and titanium bikes that steel is real as she smoothly rode by. The more she gets ridden, the more I appreciate my Waterford steed.

Lunch was at Snow Farms Vineyard where we were treated with a tour and tasting of their ice wine. Needless to say a bottle followed us home.

Rain today, but not until we arrived at our destination for the evening.

Food: Breakfast at Magnolia (great—tofu scramble); Group dinner (OK – tasty, but no protein)
