No riding today. We woke up to pouring rain and a weather map sprinkled the colors of the rainbow and high temperatures of less than 50F. It wasn't going to just sprinkle today, it was going to rain and it wasn't going to be a warm rain.
After a slow breakfast including the Beaumont Inn's "famous corn meal pancakes" (hey, if cycling 50 miles a day doesn't justify pancakes, just why ride?), we regrouped, watched more depressing weather maps and took a vote--ride, take the van and head back to Keeneland and watch the races, or head down the road in the van and visit some bourbon distilleries and hope for a change in the weather.
The optimists won the vote and so down the road to the bourbon distilleries we went--how can one leave Bourbon County and not know the first thing about bourbon? First stop Maker's Mark; second stop Heaven Hill. Interesting. Informative. But, I can't say I have acquired a taste for bourbon. Nope. Smells great, but just not our style.
The weather did start to break after visiting Heaven Hill, but with 2 miles left on the route, we all just road the van into Bardstown. We stretched our legs by taking a walk into the historic section of town for a cup of chai and some chocolates.
